Devayani is a Tamil actress who was born on June 22,1974 in Mumbai (Bombay), India. Her real name is Sushma. Besides Tamil, she has done films in Bengali, Malayalam, Hindi and Telugu. She received the Tamil Nadu State Film Award for her performances in the films Kadhal Kottai, Surya Vamsam and Bharathi. She has also appeared in other commercially successful films, including Aanandham and Friends as well as in the Sun TV series Kolangal and Muthaaram.
She started her career with a Hindi film called Koyal which was cancelled followed by a few Malayalam films. In one part, when she was interviewed by Anu Haasan, she said, My friend who knew my first film (Hindi) was cancelled, she said it was good!.
She laughed. Her first Tamil film is Thottaa Chinungi where she played her only glamorous role to date. In 1995, she made her Bollywood debut in Dil Ka Doctor and first gained acclaim for her role as Kamali in the Tamil feature Kaadhal Kottai, for which she won the Tamil Nadu State Film Special Award for Best Actress.
